Christopher Yao, the artist for the Tights and Fights: Ashes The Comic, was born and raised in Toronto. Yao is the artist and writer behind the self-published Yaoza Graphics comic Fauntkin: Journey to the Electric Horizon, the first issue of which made waves last year at Fan Expo. In addition to comic book art, Yao produces portraits, murals and graphic design.
Comics have had a major impact on Yao’s life in one form or another—everything from the backs of cereal boxes, Bazooka Joe strips, to oddlyinteresting takes on Canadian political figures caricatured as wild animals.
In 2001, Yao created Yaoza Graphics Studios (http://www.yaozagraphics.com). Since then, he has produced the art for the Mr. Comics comic Sensei Fu and the Marital Arts Masters and studied under modern comic masters like Leonard Kirk and Ty Templeton through the Toronto Cartoonists Workshop. Last year, Yao was one of the creators involved in the debut issue of TCW’s Holmes Inc. Currently, Yao is working on various projects, including the second instalment of Fauntkin. The second issue is nearing completion so watch for it! A release date will be announced soon.
