Mark A. Brown, aside from having one of the most common names on the planet (which is why he needs the initial), is a freelance screenwriter and graduate of the Toronto Film School. He is a life-long geek, with a penchant for science-fiction and superheroics, raised on a steady diet of Star Wars, anime, and comic books.
He is also a child of the 80s, and holds an English Honours MBA from the University of Ottawa, qualifying him to quote William Shakespeare, Ferris Bueller, and Yoda in the same conversation.
He’s been interested in visual storytelling and special effects since watching Jim Henson’s “The Dark Crystal” as a child. After a teenaged fling with graphic arts and illustration (who proved to be fickle mistresses), he turned to writing, realizing that he could do more with words than with pictures.
His sci-fi short “Functional Lifespan” recently won the genre champion in the 2010 Table Read My Screenplay competition, and he is currently generating more original scripts, pitches, and character designs, which he flings at brick walls hoping something will stick.
